Turtle Update! Fundraiser raises $6,000 for bait dog’s medical care

Hallmark Sotheby’s International Realty is pleased to announce that its recent fundraiser to help a severely wounded dog named Turtle was a great success. Organizers raised more than $6,000 to support the Animal Rescue League of Boston and its care of Turtle.

Believed to have been used as a bait dog, Turtle was discovered abandoned by the side of the road with severe bite wounds and bone fractures last month. The Animal Rescue League of Boston’s rescue team rushed her to Veterinary Emergency Treatment & Specialties in Walpole, where she received the emergency care she needed. Thankfully, she is now doing very well. While her road back to health will take time, her doctors expect a full recovery. She is currently being cared for at the home of her veterinarian.

“Turtle remains the sweet, gentle girl she was when we found her,” said Jennifer Woolscroft, communications director for the Animal Rescue League of Boston.

“I’m so amazed by the wonderful dedication and care that the Animal Rescue League provides to animals in dire need,” said Leslie Mann of Hallmark Sotheby’s International Realty. “We are deeply touched by the outpouring of support from residents in our own community, and across the country, who heard about Turtle’s story and reached out to help. A special thanks to our generous sponsors, Merry Perry Design of Quincy, Spynergy Cycling Studio of Wellesley, and Winslow, Evans & Crocker of Boston, for helping us raise much needed funds for this wonderful cause.”

The $6,000 raised will be used to help pay for Turtle’s medical expenses, which exceeds $10,000. The organization continues to accept donations on her behalf at www.arlboston.org.

Please help us support this rescued “bait” dog . . .

The Boston Globe recently featured a story on an abused dog that was found severely injured, left on the side of the road.

She is believed to have been  a “bait dog”, used to test the  strength of other dogs in  dog fighting.    Fortunately, a passerby found her and helped get her the care she needed. But the dog, now named Turtle, will  have a long road of recovery ahead. She will need to be quarantined for six months due to her bite injuries, and  will need rehabilitation before she can be adopted into a home.

Leslie Mann, a Realtor at Hallmark Sotheby’s International Realty, was so upset by the story that she decided  she had to do something to help raise money for the dogs’ medical care. She is hosting a spinning “party” a  at Spynergy Cycling Studio in Wellesley on Saturday, January 16 from 11am-12pm. Please come join her, enjoy  some great music, get a terrific spin workout and help support this sweet dog. “Turtle has suffered untold  cruelty and we hope that this little event will help her have a happy and healthy life ahead” said Mann.

100%  of the spin event proceeds will be donated directly to the Animal Rescue League for Turtle’s care.  Spynergy Cycling Studio has generously donated use of its spinning studio and its instructor’s time for this event.

In addition, she’s selling “I Heart Turtle Dog” t-shirts for $15.00 to raise additional funds for the shelter. These were generously donated by Merry Perry Design of Quincy. 100% of the proceeds will go directly to the Animal Rescue League.
